Dr. Cleveland Houser is an ordained minister of the gospel in the Seventh-day Adventist church. He is a graduate of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama; Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and Gulf Coast Seminary in Panama City, Florida. He has served as a pastor in the South Central Conference for ten years and as a Psychiatric Chaplain for the Tennessee Department of Corrections for sixteen years. He was adjunct professor of Sociology for the American Baptist Theological Seminary in Nashville, Tennessee for five years; associate professor of Social Science at Selma University, in Selma, Alabama and John C. Calhoun State Community College in Tanner, Alabama for four years. Dr. Houser has since earned a Doctorate of Ministry in Urban Ministry and Christian Education from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1988, Dr. Houser founded Don’t Follow Me, a non-profit anti-drug, alcohol, crime prevention and intervention organization, composed of men and women who have served time in Department of Correction Facilities. These men and women educate young people regarding the detriments of alcohol, drugs and criminal behavior.
Dr. Houser is a prolific writer having been contributing editor for the Regional Voice, and the Southern Tidings Magazines, the author of the Credit Restorer, and Don’t Follow Me newsletters. His participation in community outreach has won him numerous awards, honors, and citations from USA Today, the Philanthropic Award from Fisk University for youth outreach, and a humanitarian award for “His War on Drugs”. Dr. Houser was cited by former governor Ned McWherter of Tennessee, for leading the war on drugs among Tennessee youth.
Dr. Houser and his wife, Joyce, have united their efforts to continue to reach out to those who are shackled by the vices of Satan, helping them to know and to come to Jesus Christ. Currently, he is the Executive Director of Don’t Follow Me as well as the Prison Ministry Consultant and Trainer for the North American Division. |
