Finding Your Space

jerome hurstHello Family,

Every one of us was born to occupy space. We all must hold a certain space on this planet, a space in society and a space in our community. We also occupy a unique space in the lives of others and each of these spaces has a role that is related to it. In my wife's life, I occupy the space of husband and friend. In my children's lives, I occupy the space of parent and mentor. With each space that you occupy comes a different and unique role. It is important that you fulfill the role that goes with the space, otherwise you will leave a void in someone's life and in the world.

It has been said that service is the price that we pay for the space that we occupy. I believe this to be true. Since God has given us one life, we must seize it with both hands and live it to the fullest. I had a marvelous conversation with a young man recently about the importance of giving back. He shared with me his passion for service and about his sense of obligation and responsibility to give back to the community in gratitude for the blessings that we have received. I was overjoyed to hear this, because it is my personal philosophy. In fact, I not only think of service as giving back, I also think of it as paying it forward. I feel it is essential to render service, especially to those in need, as a response to God's phenomenal blessings to us If God has blessed you with life, then use your life to help someone who is in need.

Be intentional about effectively and fruitfully occupying all of the spaces where God has placed you in this season. Taking seriously your role in each space will make a difference in your community, in your church and organizations, and in the lives of those you touch each day.

Committed to the journey,

Pastor J. M. Hurst
