pastor quincy coverSoutheast SDA Church, Stan Hood, Senior Pastor, hosted the 10th Annual Lee-Miles Ministerial Alliance MLK Celebration on 2/27/22, the last Sunday of Black History Month. Rev. Dr. James Quincy III, Pastor of Lee Road Baptist Church (Cleveland, OH), led the community of faith event.

The Alliance meets every year to honor the memory of Dr. King and to reinforce a basic, yet extremely important tenet of the dream--working together to serve the community. The MLK birthday observance also serves to raise awareness of the Ministerial Alliance Hunger Center, which is operated by Rev. Dr. Leonard Killings, pastor of Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Pastor Quincy was joined by Rev. Timothy Eppinger, President and CEO of the Alliance and Pastor of God’s Tabernacle of Faith Church, rev eppinger coverVikki Pruitte-Sorrells, Pastor of Lee Heights Community Church and Pastor Greenwood, who presented an outstanding introduction of the speaker. Bishop Fred Graves and Minister Rodney Hubbard ushered in a spirit-filled atmosphere through song.

Pastor Quincy delivered the message, “From Miseducation to Misinformation,” a sermon that pointed out the negative impact minorities have experienced from “being indoctrinated into believing they are worthless.” The message also served as a reminder that minorities have been miseducated about who they are. Pastor Quincy shared a sobering fact that many young people are “opting out of a system that they feel doesn’t include them.” According to Pastor Quincy, misinformation and ‘fake news’ has “demoralized them so they don’t want to participate.”

The scripture was taken from I Cor. 1:18-25. “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Pastor Quincy stated that, “this is not foolishness we are engaged in. This is everlasting life.”

Pastor Hood, in reading Gen. 37:13-20 the scripture about Joseph, his brothers and the dream, asked the question, “what becomes of the dream?” Rev. Timothy Eppinger, stated that he is tired of singing we shall overcome and stressed that, “we MUST overcome the obstacles that are in our way.” Vikki Pruitte-Sorrells, Pastor of Lee-Heights Community Church brought the statement of purpose, a quote from MLK, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” She went on to say, “As children of God, we are called to be bold and courageous. Not only do we matter, we fight for those things that matter.”
