baby blessing e bulletinOn Sabbath, June 4, Southeast SDA witnessed several very different activities, but these activities had one thing in common; they all represented new beginnings.

Senior Pastor Stan Hood began a new sermon series running through June and July entitled, “The Remnant.” Taken from Daniel 7:12-15, Pastor Hood preached “In the Night Vision,” a sermon detailing the visons of Daniel and end-day prophecies.

A very sweet beginning was the baby dedication of Ronson and TaJa Evans’ baby daughter, Akira. As elders lay hands on little Akira and family and prayed over them, Pastor Hood asked for their promise to “create an atmosphere of love and respect for God.”

Pastor Hood recognized members of Southeast with Pandemic Survivor Challenge Coins. Challenge Coins are described as coins given by the military to its members to prove they were present at a certain event. Identified as true frontline warriors during the pandemic, these individuals demonstrated their commitment to Southeast by going above and beyond to keep the church running. These individuals include the Southeast Praise team-- Kaye Gilleylen, Adrienne Johnson-Hankton, Janviere Lavender, Rodney Hubbard, Robert Hubbard and Stacey Arielle. Media members Traci Oglesby and Michael Miller, Deacon Kingman El-Jamah, Personal Ministries Leader Veronica Felix, Food & Fellowship Leader Wadeioline Brown, Head Deaconess Helena Watts and Usher, Sis. Barbara received Survivor Challenge Coins.

A special recognition was given to First Elder Richard Russell and Media Director and Treasurer, Keith Dixon. Pastor Hood stated that “the growth we have today is because these two people were fearless.”

Southeast also said goodbye and thank you to Stacey Arielle for her lengthy service to the church as a Worship Leader. She and her daughter were recognized for their faithfulness. They said farewell to Southeast, but hello to new opportunities.

The Southeast Panthers Pathfinder’s Club participated in the Pathfinders Investiture Service. Delynia Mills, Pathfinder Director, and Julia Reed, Deputy Director, honored the hard work and commitment of the young people who completed their classes and progressed to the next level. Pathfinder member Brittni Brooks was recognized for her lengthy service in the church.

The last of activity of new beginnings was the Ordination Service that ordained Elders Art Parker and Dr. Hans Michell, Deacon Donald Morrow and Deaconesses Gladys Lewis, Angela Campbell, Derilyn Parker and Lillian Smith. The service began with videos of each candidate explaining what ordination means to them.

Acts: 14:23 says, “And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.”

front facing ordinationA brief sermonette preached by Pastor Stephen D. Lewis of Allegheny West Conference, issued this admonishment to the ordination candidates, “You’re not just a regular deacon. You’re not just a regular deaconess. You’re not just a regular elder—and members, you’re not just regular members. There is a very specific call when you say you want to be an officer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. You should all be filled with the Holy Ghost. You are the leaders and the Lord is wanting desperately to pour His spirit out on you.”

Pastor Stan Hood presented the Elders with an engraved Excalibur sword. According to Pastor Hood, the engraved sword features a kneeling soldier and represents “the battle is not yours—it’s the Lord’s.”

Pastor Hood stated, “candidates, you are charged to live as servants who desire to prove yourself faithful to Christ and the Christian calling and the ministry of the church.”
