hayride 3

On October 15, 2016, our Southeast family & friends attended the MetroParks Autumn Hayride in Chalet Recreation Area in Mill Stream Run Reservation, located in Strongsville, OH. Participants were the young and the “young at heart” to this event that was sponsored by the department of Family Life. Leader Dawn Carter was happy to see an even bigger crowd than last year, remarking that close to 70 people were in attendance this year.

The weather was in full cooperation with a balmy, clear night in the low 70’s. The large group met at Souteast and traveled there by caravan, led by Elder Darrel Carter, who drove the church van. For those who have never attended the Hayride in MetroParks, this was not an ordinary hayride. Each wagon is pulled by a tractor and the wagons hold around 20 or so individuals. Our hayride was at night, and we had three wagons of delighted SE family & friends.

It was the first time for many of the participants who were surprised to find out that the hayride which took everyone into the deep, dark woods of the MetroPark, also consisted of some competitive “hay tossing” to your neighboring wagon, that would pull along side of each tractor-drawn wagon throughout the ride.

After the fun of the hayride, many stayed to enjoy refreshments, fellowship and the other activities offered at the Chalet, including square dancing, pumpkin painting and crafts. A very special thanks to Dawn & Darrel Carter for organizing another fun-filled event for all to enjoy!
