2/23/19--Southeast SDA Church celebrated the end of Black History Month in a special way. It began with some children/young people of the church visiting Cleveland’s 4th District Police Department to deliver some good cheer.

Southeast member Angel Howard and her husband discovered that many times police officers cannot take a formal lunch because of their duties. Sister Howard wanted to help and thought about delivering snacks to the officers. She mentioned this to Tonyia Williams, who wanted the children of Southeast to be a part of it. Today, many children/young people delivered pre-packaged snacks to Cleveland Police officers around their break time. The church looks forward to the follow up report! Kingman El-Jamah, a Sabbath School Superintendant, led a special Black History Month Sabbath School that included poetry, readings and singing of the Black National Anthem.

Charde Hollins, Director of Music and Gladys Bankston-Lewis, director of Hands in Ministry led out in Praise and Worship. The Southeast Choir ministered vocally, as Hands in Ministry ministered in sign language. They were joined by outstanding musicians led by Rodney Hubbard. Sister Johnnaya Norton, an Ohio State Trooper survived and recovered from a recent automobile accident and was presented with roses and a gift from the church.

Pastor Hurst brought a message dealing with surviving crises. Pastor Hurst reminded the congregation that, “Even in a crisis we are expected to display a Christ-like character.” Remembering Trayvon Martin on the 7th anniversary of his death, the youth dressed in hoodies and held up Skittles candy. Trayvon lost his life walking home from the store where he purchased Iced Tea and Skittles to share with his little brother.

Following church, the youth had lunch and practiced with Charde Hurst for the Bible Bowl competition.
