Why Not Now? NIGHT FOUR

GET BACK TO THE BIBLE

Just like a computer, our brains store what they receive. The stored

information goes into the overall analysis of how we perceive the world. What

we hear and see also contributes to how we see ourselves. If we spend our

lives overstimulated by harmful information, it becomes increasingly difficult

to hear God’s voice.

WORDS HAVE POWER

Proverbs 18:21makes it clear no words are meaningless. They either give life

or death. Humans become obsessed with one or the other. Look at these

examples of word curses.

Science shows that being negative can literally kill you. The fear of what’s

missing in your life or what could go wrong trains your mind to ignore the good

in life.

James 3:2tells us that no one is an expert in navigation this issue. If we are

overloaded with cares of the world, our brain is too full, too trained, to be

sensitive to the Word of God. Consider what James says over the next few

verses.

Jesus declares in Matthew 12:36-37that we will have to give account for every

idle word we speak.

TAMING IN THE TONGUE

Our minds and hearts must be renewed by the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 16:24

encourages us to intentionally speak pleasant words. It’s sweetens the soul..

GET BACK TO THE BIBLE

Rehearsing the Word of God literally changes our perspective on life. Psalm

19:7declares the Word of God converts the soul. The Lord makes simple

1people wise. I’m a witness to that. Whenever I did dumb things, I was called a

dummy. I now know my parents meant I did dumb thing. It was certainly a

confidence destroyer. It’s probably why I went a on quest to learn something

new every day.

Psalm 19:8says the law of the Lord is right! Psalm 19:9 says the fear or

respect of the Lord is pure benefit. Psalm 19:10 says we ought to desire the

Word of God more than gold.

Psalm 19:14provides a simple but extremely important prayer. “Let the words

of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O

Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

Proverbs 4:4 — encourages us to retain those words of wisdom and keep God’s

commandments. Get Wisdom! Get understanding!

FOLLOW CHRIST

Matthew 4:19 – Follow Christ and He will make you fishers of men. The

challenge of the tongue can be difficult but not impossible. If it’s truly our

intent, He will help us overcome.
