Droplet and respiratory route transmission is the commonest mode of spread of this disease known so far. Therefore, always use a facial mask.

The scientifically made mask like the N95 can filter out some viruses. These masks are no longer readily available. And are being suggested to be saved  for use in frontline medical care workers only.

It has now been advised to wear a mask or face covering when you leave your home. It should be made of several layers of material and securely cover mouth and nose. This covering helps to keep you from spreading the virus to others if you are ill. Remember you may be infected without any symptoms so you must still wear a mask.

You can make your own mask. There are plenty of instructional videos on the internet. You can buy masks that others have made or simply use a scarf or bandanna. The mask you wear protects others ; the mask they wear protects you.

The most common symptoms of CoVid-19 is a dry hacking cough, fever and shortness of breath. There may be symptoms of a sore throat, aching muscles or diarrhea.

A runny nose, sneezing, or watery itching eyes are most likely an upper respiratory infection or allergies.

Call your health care provider of you have symptoms. Try not go to the emergency room. Only go to the ER if you have severe or life threatening symptoms.

Social distancing is important. The recommendation is 6 feet. However, others are advising more than 6 feet; up to 10 feet preferably. Depending on many factors the droplets may travel up to 30 feet by some calculations.

The actual measurement for safe social distancing is not exactly known. However, wearing a mask coupled with social distancing will help slow the spread of the virus if everyone practices it. Moreover, man is a social being but keeping distance from each other whatever is/are the relationship/s is the need of the hour.

Frequent hand washing is very important. Wash at least 20 seconds with soap and water. You can time this by saying the Lord’s Prayer twice. You may also use hand sanitizer. It should contain at least 60% alcohol. Allow the hand sanitizer to air dry on your hands.

Don’t touch your face. Cough or sneeze into a napkin or the bend of your elbow. (I can hear my mother talking.)By now all of you have noticed how difficult it is to not touch our face. We do this automatically more than 16 times a day.

The corona virus enters our body through the eyes, mouth and nose. So don’t scratch/pick your nose or rub your tired/itchy eyes. There is some evolving evidence that the virus can be shed in the stool. So a fecal/oral root may be another means of spread. Wash, wash, wash your hands. Following this will definitely be helpful to control infection to all.

The virus can survive on some surfaces for hours to days. Clean surfaces with a cleanser that is known to kill the virus. Lysol cleanser and bleach based cleanser works. You can look on the EPA website for other cleansers that are effective against the corona virus. You can also make a safe cleanser with 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water. A word of caution: do not mix cleansers together because some mixtures can produce deadly toxic gases.

Drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, exercise and eat foods of a healthy nature since it boost our immunity. We will dwell more on this in the next issue of the e-bulletin.

Avoid panic / stress and help to those who are in panic.

Pray without ceasing.

I would like to remind us of this everlasting quote by Herophilus C., 300 BC:

When health is absent,

Wisdom cannot reveal itself,

Art cannot manifest,

Strength cannot fight,

Wealth becomes useless,

And Intelligence cannot be applied,

3 John 1:2

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
