pastor hood 1Greetings Southeast!  I pray that all is well with you and yours.  This is a small update on where we are in our ministry together.

First, I want to praise God for providing for my family.  Sister Hood and I closed on our home last Friday.  We will start moving in on Monday.  We appreciate your many prayers and words of encouragement.  You have certainly strengthened us as we have commuted since March 28.

As I contemplate our transition, I’m reflecting on the past five months.  It’s been a strange new challenge to lead people through a pandemic from a distance.  We haven’t been able to look into each other’s eyes and study body language.  In light of those obstacles, the Lord has blessed us to stay together.  However, we’ve had a few hiccups and misunderstandings as a result of distance.  So, I thought I’d drop you a note to ensure that I’m clear.  Because of the pandemic and the uncertainty of the future, I can’t now or ever allow anyone else to write the vision of Southeast.  These troubling times require strength of character and positive mission driven focus. It is unwise to project gloom and doom to the church or to allow anyone else to convey that message.

In my initial meeting with your elders and with your board, I shared a clear goal of keeping everyone together during this crisis.  Some would say that I overstated it.  I did this because the odds were against avoiding hard feelings.  We’re still getting to know each other.

So, I’m writing this post to you surrounded by boxes and furniture wondering what the next few years will bring.  A scripture of comfort comes to mind.  “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”  Philippians 4:8

My prayer is that your joy be full.  Don’t allow the enemy to write calamity into your future.  The same God that has brought us this far will see us through!

God bless you Southeast!
