Mariana Anjali Castañeda was baptized at Southeast in August 2012. She loves the Lord and when asked what is her favorite scripture, she replied, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” Revelation 22:13.

She is currently a 7th grade student at Ramah Junior Academy and looking forward to her graduation in 2017. After graduating from Ramah she would like to attend the Cleveland School of the Arts.

Mariana loves music! Mariana began playing flute when she was 8 years old and has studied with instructors from Oberlin College and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is currently a student of The Cleveland Flute Academy under the direction of Heather Young Mandujano.

Mariana attends Baldwin Wallace University and is in the Baldwin Wallace Youth Honors Wind Ensemble. She has performed at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, The Classical Revolution on Cleveland’s west side, The Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music Summer Band Camp and here at Southeast Seventh-day Adventist Church. This spring she will be participating in the Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Contest where she will be performing Handel’s Sonata III in G major – Sonata IV.

In her spare time, Mariana loves to write stories and poetry about life. She loves to dance and participates in dance at both school and is a member of Selah Praise at church. When asked why she loves dance she said, “Dance is just one of the ways I can express myself by silent, delicate and meaningful motions.”

Mariana aspires to become a professional flute player or a music teacher. Her dream is to go around the world and teach and play music to the poor, homeless and the sick. She said she would like to make people laugh when they are crying, smile when they are in doubt, and bring hope when they believe hope is not possible. She feels through music she can do that.
